Aim  *  Affidamento  *  Trust  *  The Programme

Welcome to the Hite Research Foundation's unique Mentor and Protégée Programme.

Affidamento is the Italian word meaning Entrustment - a relationship of trust between women.

The Global Mentor Programme is run exclusively for women. The programme allows exceptional women to help and advise  other women to grow and develop professionally and personally. Girls around the world will find new opportunities and ways of achieving goals, and go on to outstanding careers and exceptional lives!

As we enter a new millennium it is auspicious that women continue to expand their dynamic and innovate ways of being together and assisting each other. Women have created outstanding and extraordinary achievements. These achievements have come in many forms, but in every case the women who undertook them have that something special that lifts them out of the everyday and into the spotlight; sometimes literally. Think over only the last fifty years and the incredible women who have changed not only their own lives but also the lives of others and society. The Hite Research Foundation’s programme is designed to put women from different backgrounds, skills and experiences together. To do this we want to provide a place where women can find each other and offer or exchange their skills and experience with other women.

Aim

The aim of the Hite Research Foundation's Mentor and Protégée programme is to strengthen the ties between women and to actively assist women achieve their goals and dreams.

The Hite Research Foundation has contacted a select number of exceptional and outstanding women from areas such as film, academe, business, politics, literature and the Arts.  The Foundation has asked them and other unique and powerful women to join the global mentor project. By providing links to women who are already leaders in their field, younger or less experienced women can find the support, encouragement and invaluable advice these exceptional women have to offer. This is a relationship of affidamento. (If you are interested in reading more please go to our Articles and Press page)

What is Affidamento

The concept of entrustment or affidamento to use the Italian term, is very straightforward and immensely powerful. It means women coming together in a relationship of trust in order to provide support, guidance, advice and assistance. Entrustment is very similar to the Mentor-Protégée relationship yet it has something more. This something more is found in the wish and willingness of both parties to recognise and develop the value of women.

The idea that women should develop relationships such as that of Affidamento can have mixed responses. Through the Hite Research Foundation barriers can be broken down, real or imagined, between women. This constructive framework for puts women in contact with each other in new ways.

Success can be defined in as many ways as there are people. Success to one person would be an anathema to another. Yet most of us who feel successful either by one’s own personal standards or by the standards of society, have not achieved such success alone. For most of us often a positive experience, such as that provided by a mentor – formal or otherwise – has helped us maintain the enthusiasm, determination and confidence to pursue our dream. We would never have achieved our own success if it weren’t for the generosity of time, spirit and belief of another. One of the best ways to repay this trust is to offer ourselves in a similar role. Taking the mantle of Mentor is an extremely powerful and influential step but it is not merely an exercise in giving. Just as a Mentor challenges and advises a Protégée so does a Protégée enrich a Mentor. Sometimes the roles reverse themselves as the Protégée awakens in the Mentor unknown skills and abilities.

Trust

The Mentor and Protégée relationship is one of great trust. It is absolutely crucial for the success of the programme that both parties respect each other and do nothing to compromise the integrity of the relationship and the programme. In order to facilitate the development of trust both Mentor and Protégée have the right to maintain their anonymity if they prefer.

The Programme

The Programme structure is designed to protect the privacy and integrity of participants. Protégées fill out an application form which asks them for information regarding their aspirations and expectations. This information is then posted on the Protégée Page.

Please note – detailed personal information is not included at this stage. Personal details will not be exchanged without the consent of the participants.

Only the Mentors have password access to the Protégée Page. On this page Mentors can read the various requests and contact the Foundation when they find a protégée. All initial contact is made via the Foundation. Once the participants are in contact with each other the relationship developed is negotiated between them. Please remember that there are guidelines provided by the Foundation which should be followed in the first instance. Participants are also reminded to read the disclaimer.
